Overview

IIn addition to the moral argument for achieving health equity and the fact that improving health care quality and population health will require reducing health disparities, there is a strong business case for accelerating this work at the national, state, and individual health system levels. Health disparities not only result in poorer health outcomes for historically marginalized populations; this excess disease burden also leads to increased costs for health systems, insurers, employers, and patients and families, as well as lower worker productivity due to higher rates of absenteeism and presenteeism (i.e., working while sick).
